What were your reasons for moving? What was the experience like?

We were moving from Saarland in Germany to Murcia in Spain for my husbands work. As we do not speak German we emailed about six companies and got no reply from any, even though the emails were sent in German. This was painful. By using Sirelo, I got quotes within 24 hours – not only did this save us time, but also a lot of money.

I found this extraordinary as we have moved continents several times and have always had an immediate response – even in the African bush. It was like European companies just weren’t interested. Finding Sirelo and the service it offers was a godsend and the response time too good to be true.

What made you choose this mover? Did you do any research?

We move every two to three years to different countries and sometimes even continents. We have always used the moving services of a big international company. However, the price they quoted to move us was as much as we paid to move our stuff from Tanzania to Germany – thus to a different continent – which was way too expensive. And some companies even requested €5.000 more than the already high quote of the international mover.

BERG Umzüge International quote was just to load move and unload and much cheaper. We did not have to do an inventory to get a quote, which was surprising. They just accepted our very vague estimate – in fact, we only knew how much room our stuff took up as we have moved countries six times before. The other consulted companies wanted to do online viewings and requested a written inventory.

Take us through your moving day – did everything go as planned? What worked and what didn’t?

We had two trucks as we knew that our stuff would fit into a 20 feet container. The first truck arrived at 9 am, the second truck was three hours late due to a police stop where they got checked. The driver was very friendly, efficient and professional, and even a local was hired to assist him. Once the first truck was loaded, the rest of our stuff was all taken outside and sorted – ready for loading the second truck – which gave us time to clean the house. The second truck was loaded efficiently once it arrived and care was taken with our fragile stuff.

We all left at the same time, and when we arrived at our new location two days later the trucks were already there waiting for us. Our stuff was unloaded. Everything apart from the delay of the second truck on their arrival was efficient and professional. All our stuff arrived, nothing broken and nothing missing, it ran like clockwork.

Based on your experience, what are your top tips you’d like to share to help others for their own moves?

• Start very early, weeks before.
• Clear your house of clutter and useless items so all that is left in your house is what you are actually taking.
• Get several quotes for the service you require and check the company’s reviews.
• Order packing materials well in advance and pack as much as you can in advance. The last thing you need is to get to your moving day and find you have ran out of boxes, corrugated paper or tape.
• Label your boxes with location for it to go in new place, basic contents and number them. Write a list with all this info on so you can check them off when your goods are unloaded and direct them to take to the right room.

Were you surprised by the cost of your move? Why do you think that is?

The moving costs were cheaper than expected, which surprised me a lot. I received some quotes three times the price I actually paid in the end, thus I was overly happy, as you can imagine.
