Moving to the UK for a Job

What were the main challenges you anticipated with relocating on a tight schedule?

I recently got a new position in a different country, I therefore had to find a new apartment to be able to accept the offer. I had a very tight schedule and needed to cross the border a minimal number of times for administrative reasons. I therefore opted to have a professional service to move all my belongings, including bulky furniture and collections of instruments, cards, and decorations. Packing took me a lot of time, but I didn’t have the proper transportation to move everything by myself.

Why did you decide to use a professional moving service instead of handling the move yourself?

After careful consideration of all the offers gathered by Sirelo’s website, I chose to hire the moving company offering the best options. Fast communication, help with the administrative process to move all the items to a new country, picking up and unloading the goods directly in the apartments (including one on the second floor without an elevator), and not requiring my help to carry the furniture. It was the most expensive of the offers, but I would choose it again due to its comfort and efficiency.

How did the moving day unfold? Did everything go according to plan?

Everything worked as planned (almost)! The truck actually arrived 30 minutes earlier than expected, but I was ready and had booked some space in front of the house for them. They came in, had a quick overview of the belongings that needed to be moved, and then started wrapping everything in protective plastics. They took all the furniture and boxes on their own, bringing them carefully through the elevator and stairs. I then proceeded to travel the next day to the new country, picked up the keys of the apartment the third day, and had everything delivered early on the fourth day morning. Unloading was as efficient as the loading, and we got everything in perfect condition!

What tips would you give to someone planning an international move?

Tightly pack everything long in advance, plan for additional boxes and space, there is always more than expected, and it takes longer than one can foresee to prepare everything until the last bit! Carefully plan your trip and arrival in your new home, as you will need to coordinate your arrival with the arrival of your belongings. Try to plan for some buffer time in case any delay happens during your transportation or picking up your keys, as trains are late, and you don’t want to miss the delivery of your belongings!
