What were your reasons for moving? What was the experience like?

We bought a house in Thailand. Due to the extreme behaviour of the Austrian system during Covid. This put the decision to find a safe heaven on another continent very easy. A place to escape if something goes really wrong in the EU. We sold two of our three apartments in a winter sport resort. We bought at a Thai island a larger property at less than 100 meters from the beach.

What made you choose this mover? Did you do any research?

The excellent communication, their flexibility and honest answers. Navtrans Global Relocation Service work together with the oldest forwarder in Thailand which will make the customs procedure most likely much easier. The price was in comparison with the other supplier almost half. The difference between a 20 and 40 feet container was only € 1000,00. Hence we took the larger one and it made the loading of the container much easier. I searched the internet and we asked 8 different suppliers to make an offer. The difference in treatment and price were striking.

Take us through your moving day – did everything go as planned? What worked and what didn’t?

I still have a company to take care of. This means I am really busy. Hence, I am been more happy that I found a forwarder which answered my questions with short, clear answers. As above explained we did all the packing ourselves, which was by the way an enormous amount of work. The container arrived in time, they send an experienced driver. We were allowed to stall the container from Friday till Monday. We finally used the Friday afternoon and evening as well as the whole Saturday to pack the container. With 33 degrees it was extremely hot inside. Touring the walls made your skin really hurting. At Monday the container was taken. The whole process hardly took any time.

Based on your experience, what are your top tips you’d like to share to help others for their own moves?

Consider if you would pack everything yourself. As a company owner we have sufficient package material. Be aware you really need a lot to pack the items well in order to prevent damages. It is also a very time consuming process. We used our free hours from the end of October until the middle of July to have everything ready for a 40-feet container. The container was almost full until a bit over 60% of the height of the container. I guess it would not have fit in a 20-feet container storing all the way to the ceiling. The advantages is that you first most boxes and items at the sides until you get a feeling how high you must start. We wanted a kind of flat surface at the top in order to prevent items start moving around and get damaged. The tip of using old matrasses to block the end of the line of goods if the whole load did not come all the way to the doors was very helpful.
